From its beginnings, the Giustina family has championed sustainable forestry practices. To us, that means meeting the natural resource needs of today without compromising the well-being of tomorrow.
The future of our company is rooted in our reforestation efforts. While the Oregon Forest Practice Act rigorously regulates minimum reforestation requirements statewide, we take it a few steps further. Our forestry staff actively participates in research cooperatives, workshops, and seminars in order to deploy advanced silvicultural techniques across our forests. Our staff manages an industry-leading genetics program which begins at our seed orchard. Staff invest time with seedling nursery growers to ensure the seed we send to our nurseries, from our orchard, will produce exceptional seedlings well prepared for growth in the forest. After planting, field staff continue to monitor and support seedling survival well beyond “Free to Grow” conditions.
Our forests are certified through the American Tree Farm System (ATFS) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI). Independent audits have verified that our forest management practices are consistent with the principles of sustainable forestry, including protections for biodiversity and wildlife. We strive to incorporate wildlife and biodiversity research and theory into everyday forest management practices.
- SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We employ a professional forestry staff dedicated to enhancing the value and productivity of our forests. Integrity, decency, and fairness form the basis of our business decisions and support long-term relationships with our employees, customers, contractors, neighbors and Indigenous Peoples. We listen to our neighbors, consider their input, and discuss their concerns with regard to our business model.
Forests are vital to our local economy. We manage our forests as a responsible and productive member of the community to provide social and economic benefits for the community through local employment, recreation access, a healthy forest environment, and education. We are proud to support our professional loggers, timber fallers, trucking contractors, and the consultants that help bring our products to market.
